Haley’s Blog – March 12 (Brazil)

Today was amazing. It was the only day we will be able to sleep a little later so I definitely enjoyed the few extra minutes of sleep. After breakfast we went down to the lobby to find out that the bigger project we had planned to work on fell through. It was very discouraging for the other families so immediately we started praying for God to bring us more work to do. My family went on ahead to work on our smaller project with Katie’s family while the others went on a prayer walk. To actually get to the houses we had to walk about 30 minutes which didn’t sound too fun at the time. But as always, God proved me wrong. I really enjoyed the neighborhood, the scenery, and especially the constant barking of the dogs. Soon after arriving at the house we began sanding the shutters and trim around the windows so we were able to varnish them. Then RayJay, Kiersten, Mason, and Andrew started painting primer onto the bedroom walls so they would be able to paint them tomorrow. I’m not going to lie, the heat was my main enemy throughout the entire day. At some points it was hard to keep a smile on my face and a positive attitude but watching everyone else continue to work changed how I felt about it. Shortly after the other families finished their prayer walk and arrived at the house, the lady that lives there made my family and John Paul lunch. As I watched her make lunch for us I noticed that she was putting a lot of effort into preparing it reminding me a lot of how my mom cooks my family dinner and made me feel like I was at home for a few minutes. After lunch we continued working even though there was not enough for all of us to do we managed to get everyone involved and feel like they contributed. After we cleaned up and left the house we came back to the hotel to shower and head to dinner. We ate at a very unique pizza place and I was pleasantly surprised to find Brazilian pizza to be better than American. After dinner I walked back to the hotel with the adults and was constantly laughing. I’m so thankful to have such great adults in our youth group who genuinely care about us. When we got back to the hotel we had share time and sang How He Loves Us from Ty’s iphone. It made me realize that we don’t need a huge concert or a band on stage to worship God and be moved by it. Us singing together was the perfect ending to my day and I cannot wait to wake up tomorrow and experience it all over again.

I am so proud of my niece, the work she is doing and the things God is teaching her through this experience. I love you Haley girl!!!!!

  2. Remember God is in control! You all are the hands and feet of God. He is working in and through your lives changing hearts and lives more than you could ever imagine! Whether what we are doing is big or small in human eyes, God is using it all for HIs glory, lives are being touched and forever changed for Jesus Christ! For those who are prayer walking, they need to remember, “Prayer is not preparation for the work, it is the work.” (Oswald Chambers quote). Everything that you guys are doing is having an impact, your smiles, your laughter, your hugs, your painting, drinking the chimarrao, prayer walking, Everyone is watching…hearts and lives are being forever changed for Jesus Christ!! I am so thankful for you all who were willing to sacrifice so much to go to Brazil to share the love of Jesus Christ. Remember He is working and He is with you every step of the way!! Lots of love and hugs, Teresa

Totally teared up when Haley was talking about how much effort the lady put into their lunch and it reminded me of her mom.

  4. All you and your friends’ experiences are so nice to hear.. it reminds me of similar tour I had 6 years ago. That was a life changing trip for me. It taught me a lot of things necessary in life that school was unable to teach. Hope you have a great day everyday!! 🙂
